Update Windows Photo Gallery Free Download

Windows Photo Gallery is part of the Windows Live Essentials 2011 software suite, which is available for free from Microsoft. While the entire suite must be downloaded, the Windows Photo Gallery component can be installed by itself. The Windows Photo Gallery software allows you to perform basic photo editing and photo management with your collection of photographs. Windows Photo Gallery also makes it easy for you to share your photos with others.

Step 1

Download Windows Live Essentials 2011 (see 'Resources' below).

Step 1

Go to the 'Start' menu on your desktop and click 'Control Panel.' Click on the 'View By' drop-down menu and chose 'Small Icons' to view all of the programs in Control Panel. Kings of leon waste a moment download. Click on 'Color Management.'

Go into the 'Device' tab. Click on the 'Device' drop-down menu to choose the display device you are using. It will say 'Display' plus the rest of the device name (e.g. 'Display 1: Generic PnP Monitor').

Click the 'Use My Settings For This Device' box after selecting the display device. Then click the 'Add' button near the bottom of the Color Management program. This will cause a pop-up window entitled 'Associate Color Profile' to pop up.

Go into the Associate Color Profile pop-up and, under 'ICC Profiles', select 'sRGB IEC61966- 21.' If you don't have that ICC Profile, you can download it from the International Color Consortium website (see Resources). After you select that ICC Profile, click 'OK' to take you back to the Color Management program.

Look at the box under 'Profiles Associated with this Device' when you're back in Color Management, and click 'sRGB IEC61966- 21' to highlight it. Click the 'Set as Default Profile' button under the box. Close out of the program, and check your photos in Photo Gallery to make sure there are no more yellow-tinted backgrounds.

Step 1

Go to the 'Start' menu on your desktop, and click on the 'Search' option. Type in 'Folder Options.'

Step 2

Click open the 'Folder Options' program and go to the 'View' tab. Look under 'Advanced Settings' and look for 'Hidden Files and Folders.' Click on 'Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives,' then click the 'Apply button at the bottom of the program and then 'OK' to exit out of Folder Options.

Step 3

Go back to the Start menu and click on 'Computer.' Select 'Local Disk (C:)' and navigate your way to the Photo Gallery files. Go to 'C:Users'Your Name'AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Photo Gallery.

Step 4

Select all of the files that are at 'C:Users'Your Name'AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Photo Gallery' and then copy them to another location (e.g. 'C:Users'Your Name'MyDocumentsMyPhotos'). Right-click on the highlighted file, and select 'Copy.' Then navigate to the new location, right-click again and select 'Paste.' You now have a copy of the file in the new location.

Go back to 'C:Users'Your Name'AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Photo Gallery' and delete all of the files that are there. Highlight the files, right-click on them and select 'Delete.'

Open Windows Photo Gallery, and view the photos from the new location. Be sure to go back to the 'Folder Options' program and select 'Don't Show Hidden Files, Folders, or Drives.'

Troubleshooting Tools

Step 1

Use Microsoft's Fix It program to scan for problems in Windows Photo Gallery. Go to the Microsoft Support website (see References).

Step 2

Click the 'Run' button under the 'Automated Troubleshooting Services' box. This will do a temporary download of the program. When the program has finished downloading, be sure to select the 'Run' button. The Windows Photo and Slideshow Troubleshooter will pop up and begin walking you through the process.

Step 3

Select 'Detect Problems and Apply the Fixes for Me' when the Troubleshooter gives you the option. The program will then search for the problems that Windows Photo Gallery is having and fix them. When it is finished doing this, it will report its findings and if it fixed the problem.

Hit the 'Next' button after Troubleshooter gives you its reports. You will then be asked whether the Troubleshooter fixed your problem. Select your answer, and hit the 'Submit' button. You'll be taken to another screen letting you know your answer was properly submitted. Click the 'Finish' button when you are done.
